6 Things That Should Happen At TNA's 2020 One Night Only Event By Hakeem Fullerton

Intro: For better or for worse TNA Wrestling has helped to change the face of the wrestling world since it's inception back in 2002.

Alongside fellow contemporaries Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, TNA (now known as Impact Wrestling) has provided wrestlers and fans alike a product that was a far cry from the sports entertainment style of wrestling that the WWE was and still is known for today. 

 Although it suffered from a number of mistakes in the mid 2010's, the company was able to produce a product that could draw fans in and have them coming back for more; even today they still provide an alternative that gets the public interested whether they like to admit it or not.

 In early January of this year, Pro Wrestler and one half of the Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions, "All Ego" Ethan Page mentioned  on Twitter that a one night only TNA show would be happening in the near future.

Well just like what happened when Cody and the rest of the Elite accepted Dave Meltzer's challenge after tweeting that a non WWE show could sell out a 10,000 seat arena, the higher ups in charge of Impact decided to make this happen and so it was announced on January 16th that on April 3rd of this year that a one night only TNA event would be happening around WrestleMania weekend at the Ritz Ybor venue in Tampa Florida.

 The company has also been playing it smart when comes to slowly releasing the information on who will be appearing at the show and what kind of matches to expect on social media, in order to build up suspension and intrigue to the event.

So Today I've decided to do a list of six things that I believe should happen at the 2020 one night only TNA event in Tampa Florida...and before you ask no the return of the six sided ring isn't going to be featured on this list as its almost a guarantee that the company will be bringing back the notorious octagon shaped ring, in honor of this special event. 














































































































6. Special Guest Host
So I'm starting this list off with one of the more minor things that could happen at this event and that is having a special guest host presiding over the event.

 The inclusion of a guest host could be a good publicity move for the company as Impact Wrestling could mention via their social media accounts that a legendary wrestler will be returning to the company to be the special guest host. 

 This will most likely lead to many fans and journalists speculating over who this legendary wrestler might be thus adding even more suspense on who will show up to they event before they eventual big reveal on either PPV, TV or social media.

The most obvious choice would be Gail Kim, considering she's one of the most important figures in the Knockouts division and the company itself.

 However, while Gail would be the easiest pick for this role many fans may find it predictable at best and when your having a show like this around WrestleMania weekend, you want to make sure that you get all of the attention that you can get.

 Other names that could be considered are guys like Sting, Kurt Angle or Christian; After all much of the boom period TNA experienced from 2005-09 was due to them, not to mention that they've praised the company for the work they done after leaving and could be open to the idea especially with Sting and Kurt Angle's experiences as General Mangers of TNA and WWE, plus "The Instant Classic" did make a special appearance at Slammiversary 2012, so who's to say he couldn't do it again. 


Now the obvious issue would be if WWE would let any of these names actually participate in they event as many of them are signed to WWE legend contracts and we all know how strict Vince McMahon can be about having stars show up to events hosted by rival promotions, but if can happen it would garner even more intrigue to the event whilst keeping the public guessing as to who will be the special guest host. 



















5. Dream Matches
While on the subject on: "If WWE will allow former TNA/Impact talent to appear on this show?" let's talk about the possibility for dream matches taking place.

Depending on who will be able to make it to the event (as many former TNA/Impact talents have signed with other promotions) the chances of seeing dream matches involving AJ Styles, Samoa Joe or James Storm wrestling any of the current stars of the Impact Roster are very slim, but considering how this company has always managed to take very little and make into something great, there's chance that this could happen here as well. 

 So far names like Chris Harris, Scott Steiner, Mr. Anderson, Amazing Red among others have been announced to appear at the one night only show and while many of them could still put on good matches, the contests that many fans wish to see are the one's involving wrestlers who'd never had any interactions before this event.



Matches like Chris Sabin vs. TJP, Bobby Lashley vs. Michael Elgin, The Motor City Machine Guns vs. The North, EC3 vs. Sami Callihan, Jordynne Grace vs. Hamada, The Lucha Bros vs. The Rascalz, Aces & Eights vs. oVe are just the tip of the iceberg of matches that have never happened elsewhere but could happen at the one night only show...again it depends on if they can get permission from the company's they work for to attended the event but when it comes to pro wrestling...almost anything can happen on any given day.








4. Gimmick Matches
When the head booker for much of the promotions existence is Vince Russo you shouldn't be surprised that gimmick matches tend to happen...a lot.

 So far the only match to be announced for the show is an Ultimate X, and while the participates for this match have not been revealed(as of the time I'm writing this article) and the match itself will almost certainly be a show stealer, there some other matches that the company could bring back for the purpose of this show. 

 Classic matches like King of The Mountain, the Reverse Battle Royale and the Steel Asylum could be revived for one night to give the fans in attendance a sense of nostalgia whilst including some of the more memorable gimmicks like Curry Man, Abyss, The Deaners, Rosemary, "Broken" Matt Hardy, Shark Boy, ODB and more. 
Other matches like Last Person Standing, Full Metal Mayhem or Barb Wire Massacre can also be incorporated into the show to give it a more hardcore and violent feel to it which is also something the company was and is still known for today. 

In short, the options that Impact management have in regards to matches that could be brought back for the one night only TNA show are endless but as long as there isn't any fish market street fights, lockbox challenges or scaffold matches than everything should be okay.













3. Mike Tenay and Don West on Commentary
Honestly, this one here is probably the most universally agreed upon of all the other entries on this list as you can't have a proper TNA show and not have the commentary stylings of "The Professor" Mike Tenay and D.W. Don West. 

 Fans of the old TNA days will remember how amazing it was to hear Don West lose his mind on commentary, reacting to all of the crazy stuff that would be happening on the show while creating outlandish conspiracy theories about on going storylines; Meanwhile Mike Tenay would play the role of the no nonsense straight man who would be the voice of reason and information throughout the commentary team whilst also delivering sound bites that have helped to define some of the most iconic moments in company history. 

 Quite simply, Mike and Don were the TNA/Impact equivalent of Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler back in the Attitude Era or even Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan back in The Rock and Wrestling Era. 

 While other commentators have done a servable job at the commentary desk, you just can't replace the OG voices of a generation of fans. 

Since both of them left Impact under auspicious circumstances, many fans have be asking for their return and perhaps this event could see Don West and Mike Tenay return to the commentary desk and give the new Impact Wrestling fans a taste of what commentary was like during the company's golden age.

Plus, if they agree to make an appearance on this show then maybe there is a chance the could return back for another event...and that's for a future induction into the TNA/Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame.   













2. The Return of Monty Brown
Since his name was brought back into the wrestling world's conciseness thanks to a photo he took with former TNA star, Bobby Roode as well as his name being mentioned in a tweet by current Impact Wrestling Star, Moose a couple of months ago..."The Alpha Male" Monty Brown has been in the discussion of many Impact fans as a person who should make a return to the company. 

For those who only know about Monty Brown thanks to the various YouTube videos that show him wrestling, cutting promos or hitting his signature 'Pounce' maneuver; the former NFL linebacker was one of the most popular names during the TNA era who sadly never got to achieve championship success during run thanks Jeff Jarrett's stronghold over the world title as well as being pushed over for other names like Jeff Hardy, Raven and Christian Cage.
   


His 2007 run in WWE's ECW brand as Marcus Cor Von was even more lackluster as Monty would leave the wrestling business after the death of his sister and went on to help raise his sister's kids following her death. 

 Since then we've all wondered what could of been when it comes to the career of Monty Brown but perhaps a possible return to the ring could change all of that.  

 If there ever was perfect time for "The Alpha Male" to come back into the ring it would be now as the man himself is only 50 years old and is reportedly in such fantastic shape that he could step into the ring today and probably wouldn't miss a step.

Monty Brown's involvement in this show would be amazing in a number of ways: 1. It would confirm his return to pro wrestling (temporary or otherwise), 2. It could lead to a match between Monty and Moose on PPV somewhere down the road (If his interested in one last run) and 3. It would be a great way for him to say goodbye the company that helped make him famous all those years ago and he can be able to move on with his life knowing that this chapter in his life has finally reached it's end. 

























1. A Proper Farewell To The TNA Saga
For the longest time, the TNA Wrestling name has been painted in a disastrous light and it's been well documented how in 2016 the company ended not with a bang but a heartbreaking whimper for a number of reasons, but what if this One Night Only TNA show did something that you don't see a whole lot of in wrestling and that's end with a satisfying conclusion.

While the show itself will undoubtedly be a giant nostalgic act for wrestling fans, the show could also served as a final farewell to a chapter in the company's long and tumultuous history.

This show could be seen the final hooray for Total Nonstop Action allowing the fans, the wrestlers working the show, and the company itself to finally close the door on the TNA saga and obtain a sense of closure that they weren't able to get back in 2016. 



Imagine this show in the same vain as the One Night Stand ECW shows in the WWE or even what WrestleMania X-7 was for attitude Era...the final chapter of an impressive saga.

I'm well aware that people will still call the company 'TNA' and they'll will find any possible excuse to talk about the mistakes the company made 10 years ago, but booking this show as a farewell to the TNA legacy would be great for the company as the it would allow them to say goodbye to the past and continue on with the progress that they've been making as Impact Wrestling since 2018.
