The United States Enters World War II As you may recall from the previous article on the 1940 election, Franklin D. Roosevelt won an unprecendented third term to remain President of the United States while also campaigning on the promise that he wouldn't get the country involved in World War II...but those plans changed following the events of December 7th 1941. On this day, the Empire of Japan launched kamikaze attacks on the U.S. Naval base, Pearl Harbor on the island of Hawaii with around 2,400 dead, thousands more injured and numerous navy ships were destroyed.
